I have been having problems with windows trying to update and it not working. So reinstalling windows on my C: drive is what I think I should do, but I was wondering if doing that will delete things from my other two hard drives. I have pictures and videos on them that would be hard to get back.

If all the data you wish to preserve is NOT on the "C" or Windows installed drive (or partition) then a reinstall should not affect them so long as you don't select one of them to reinstall Windows on during the reinstall. Before you do that however what other methods have you tried to sort it out. I'm not sure if there is a Windows 8 update troubleshooter. Have a look on the MS support site.

Before you go any further, take a look at this.

Do you have the Windows 8.1 installation disk? It used to be that if you have the Windows 8.1 installation CD one could use this to "Repair" Windows without affecting user files.
