"USB device not recognised" problem

Hi. I have an Acer Aspire V notebook (model V3-372-587T). I am running Win 10 home, Ver 1809 (64 bit). The laptop has 3 USB ports, 2 of which are USB2, and are on the same side of the notebook. Both of these are not seeing any thumbdrive or printer that I plug into them. The third one, on the other side of the casing, is a USB3, and it is working fine. Probably related to the problem with the two USB 2 ports, I continue to get an error message every 5 mins or so, with an annoying sound. The error message is "USB device not recognised. The last device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows did not recognise it. Recommendation: Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognise it, your device may not be working properly." This message comes up when I have no device plugged into those two USB2 ports. Would really appreciate any advice you can give, please.

Do a full shutdown. Hold down the shift key whilst clicking on shutdown. This should clear its memory of the last device connected.

  1. Start menu-Power - restart

if still same then

  1. Go into Device manager and uninstall he USB2 hubs / controllers and again restart windows should reload the drivers on the restart see if they work after that.
