And on it goes . Glad I dumped Ccleaner once Avast bought it.

I gave up CCleaner several months ago after many years use. It caused havoc on my laptop and desktop after updating. Any program that does that gets dumped from my systems. It's bad enough with Windows updates that fail without having to put up with it from other companies whose software I'm paying for.

Many thanks rdave13 for your post. I'll be deactivating my automatic yearly renewal subscription to paid-for Avast 'protection' forthwith. [That's £80]

I'll probably use Norton instead.

It's sad to see such a good program downgraded by being bought by a big company that looses touch. Hope the original programmers are enjoying their sale money and must now be doubling over in laughter.

Aitchbee make sure you search for their uninstaller tool first. Don't know which Windows OS you use but do you really need to pay for security? Lots of info if you search this site.

Thanks, rdave13. I'll follow your advice.

Have a look at this post Aitchbee although it pertains to Windows 10. link.

Yes rdave13, I had a look at all of those and had a good think. Tech Advisor at it's best, btw, with such stalwart forum-members whom I trust unreservedly with their helpful topnotch advice.

[I'll be in FE's 'good books' for a while for all of this praiseworthy extolment, hopefully. ]

"I'll be in FE's 'good books' for a while"

Was it ever otherwise?

I must be one of the few people who couldn't care less if CCleaner collects anonymised data. The software's usefulness outweighs any perceived disadvantages in my book. It has not caused any problems on any of my machines and I shall certainly carry on using it, although I will disable the active monitoring when they offer that option in the coming weeks - merely because I dislike little pop-up messages of any description in the system tray.
