Connecting iMac to Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon

I've recently started a new job where I work from home and need a dual display. I'm currently using my work Lenovo X1 Carbon laptop connected to a bulky old TV monitor and would like to somehow connect to my iMac instead. I've googled and it all looks very confusing. My iMac is a 2017 Retina 4K, it has two thunderbolt ports and it seems the thinkpad also has a thunderbolt port. It seems people have not been able to get this to work from what I've seen on google searches.

Does anyone know if it is possible and what cable I need to be able to do this?

As far as I'm aware, Apple removed the ability to use a Mac as a monitor or second screen from another computer. It used to be possible in older Macs running earlier versions of OSX.
