The Black Friday sales season is coming! These deals are the best available right now, but the coming weeks may bring even better value across a wider range of products.

Amazon Prime Day is over for another year. The deals event brought with it thousands of mega discounts across categories including laptops, tablets, phones, TVs, wearables and more. Just because it's over, though, doesn't mean the deals are. We expect many to last until Black Friday, or reappear as we approach the November bargain bonanza.

Deals officially began at midnight on 13 October, and ended at 23:59 on 14 October. In addition to thousands of deals that spanned both days, there were speedy and limited Lightning Deals, particularly the Featured Lightning Deals, which were some of the best bargains.

Amazon said that "throughout Prime Day, members can shop with confidence that they're getting low prices that won't be beaten this year," meaning there was no need to hesitate or wait for Black Friday.

The following content was written and published throughout Prime Day itself, so many of the deals and discounts mentioned will no longer be available. We've left them here to give you an idea of what happened on Prime Day and what you can expect from the event in the future.

When is Amazon Prime Day 2020?

Amazon Prime Day usually takes place in July, bringing with it savings across the site for Prime members - especially on Amazon's own devices, like the Fire tablets and Echo smart home kit.

2020 is a little different of course, so Amazon has delayed its blow-out sale until later in the year.

Amazon Prime Day will span two days, starting at 00:01 on Tuesday 13 October, and finishing at 23:59 on Wednesday 14 October 2020, with new deals appearing throughout that time on Amazon's Prime Day page.

This places the event just ahead of Black Friday, the biggest deals event of the year which takes place on the day after Thanksgiving in the US. This year, Black Friday falls on 27 November.

Amazon will also take part in Black Friday alongside thousands of its rivals across the web, and we're predicting that Prime Day will kick off deals and sales across the web that will last until Black Friday and run right into the New Year.

See why we think Prime Day 2020 will be better than Black Friday.

Last year, Prime Day began on Monday 15 July, and finished at 23:59 on Tuesday 16 July, marking the first time the sale continued for two days straight.

Why was Amazon Prime Day delayed?

Amazon's Prime Day historically takes place in July, but 2020 has brought with it some huge challenges, so Amazon decided to push back the deals event in order to keep its staff and customers safe.

“This year we’ll be holding Prime Day later than usual, while ensuring the safety of our employees and supporting our customers and selling partners,” an Amazon spokesperson told The Verge. “Members all around the world will experience Prime Day later this year.”

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Prime Day is a major sale event hosted by Amazon that offers exclusive discounts to its Prime members. Amazon launched its first Prime Day in the summer of 2015, to celebrate its 20th birthday. Prime Day 2020 will be the company's sixth such event.

Some of the most popular tech categories on Amazon during Prime Day 2019 were video game consoles and headphones, while some of the top selling products were Amazon's own Echo Show and Echo Show 5, and the Fire 7 tablet. The PlayStation Classic and Oral B electric toothbrushes were also popular purchases.

All customers need to be a Prime member in order to access Prime Day promotions or deals. Here's our step-by-step guide on signing up, or go to Amazon now to get its 30-day free trial.

In a nutshell, Amazon Prime is a service that started out as a way to get unlimited next day delivery, but has since evolved to include additional benefits such as access to Amazon's Netflix rival service, Prime Video.
